About the Job Located in Berkeley, California our client is a non-profit Cannabis Dispensary organization. With a history of 20+ years in business, it is one of the nation's oldest cannabis dispensaries. Due to company growth they are currently search for a CFO to join there Leadership Team. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of professional experience in finance and accounting (public accounting and/or industry related experience). Candidates who have prior experience working for a Non-Profit organization and/or prior knowledge of Medicinal Cannabis are strongly preferred. This person will be responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the corporation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other regulatory and advisory organizations and in accordance with financial management techniques and practice appropriate within the cannabis industry. What You Will Be Doing This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for the direct supervision of the Finance Manager and the indirect supervision of other employees of the Finance Department. Other responsibilities include: Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization’s fiscal function and performance. Participate in the development of the corporation’s plans and programs as a strategic partner. Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of expansion strategies, new sites, programs and regulatory action. Develop credibility for the finance function by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the Ownership/Board of Directors, senior executives and managers in performing their responsibilities. Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies, systems and procedures of the organization that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation. Establish credibility throughout the organization as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges. Provide technical advice and knowledge to others within the financial department. Continually improve the budget process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting department budgets. Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization; e.g., approval with consent of CEO/Board of any budgetary changes, evaluation of potential alliances, acquisitions and/or mergers and retirement funds and investments. Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position. Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs. Direct activities of CPA/Tax attorney for year-end tax planning and preparation of returns Manage employee benefits contracting. Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the corporation may enter. Manage the finance staff Evaluate the finance division structure and team and plan for the continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the team Provide the finance team with opportunities for professional and personal growth with emphasis on opportunities (where possible) of individuals.
