Fun Fall Snacks: Cannabis-Infused Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
October 31st is fast approaching and here at Herban Planet, we’re fully embracing the spirit! Over the course of this month, we’ll be sharing our Halloween tips and tricks with you so you’re ready to celebrate well in advance! And while it may be a little early to start decorating pumpkins, we’ll admit that we’re already searching Pinterest for “Pot Leaf Carving Templates” and digging out our serrated tools.
Carving jack-o-lanterns is a messy, gooey process, but the results are worth the clean up. Not only do you end up with a piece of artwork you can (hopefully) display proudly on your doorstep, but you can use the leftover pumpkin in a number of different ways: pumpkin seed brittle, pumpkin butter and (of course) pumpkin pie. But one of our favorite ways to use leftover pumpkin? Making the house smell cozy and inviting by tossing up some delicious cannabis-infused roasted pumpkin seeds.
Pumpkin seeds are high in protein, fiber and fatty acids, making them a guilt-free snack. They’re perfect for passing the bong and watching Netflix or keeping you going during an all-day hike. There are endless ways to dress up roasted pumpkin seeds; it’s all a matter of personal preference. But here are a few of our favorite ways to enjoy them! We’ll start with a recipe for plain cannabis-infused roasted seeds and move on to some different flavor variations. Try them out then get stoned and create your own fun combos! Vegan? Just substitute cannabis-infused olive oil for the cannabutter and you’re good-to-go.
Cannabis Infused Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
2 cups pumpkin seeds, cleaned and dried of pulp residue
2 tablespoons cannabutter (homemade recipe here)
1. Preheat oven to 325º.
2. Melt the butter in a small saucepan.
3. Pour the seeds into a mixing bowl and combine with the melted butter.
4. Spread onto a baking sheet and bake until golden brown, roughly 30 minutes.
5. Allow to cool and enjoy!
Each of these variations calls for you to prepare the original recipe until Step 3. At this point, add the ingredients listed for each of the variations below to the mixture of the pumpkin seeds and melted cannabutter. Make sure everything’s tossed together evenly then continue on as the recipe instructs!
Brown Sugar Cinnamon
Combine 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt.
Curry and Lime
Combine 1 tablespoon curry powder, 1 tablespoon lime juice, 1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt, and 1/4 teaspoon cumin.
Combine 1 1/2 tablespoons maple syrup, 1/2 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice mix, 1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt.
Cayenne and Urfa
Combine 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper, 1 teaspoon urfa* flakes, 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil, and 1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt.
*Urfa is a delicious, smoky Turkish pepper with a mild heat. It can be found in Middle Eastern or international markets or ordered online. The flavor is well worth seeking out and adds a unique profile to this snack.
Combine 1/4 cup grated parmesan (or vegan parmesan substitute), 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon thyme, 1/2 teaspoon rosemary, and 1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt.
