Is Weed Hangover a Real Thing?

If you have ever woken up feeling particularly foggy or sick after a heavy smoke session all night long, you are not the only one. Just as people get hangovers after a heavy night of drinking, weed hangovers are also a real thing. The symptoms are not as severe as if you took 20 shots, but the cause is the same – you used far too much. These are the five main symptoms of weed hangover after night pf heavy smoke session.

1.     Dehydration
The whole mechanism of why marijuana causes dehydration is a bit complicated. The important thing to note is when you smoke weed; your mouth temporarily stops producing saliva. This is why we get a cotton mouth. This is also why, when you wake up after a heavy smoke session, you feel extremely dehydrated.

2.     Headaches
Even taking one hit of the bong cause you to have a dry mouth, or as it known more commonly, cotton mouth. If you have a heavy night of smoking, it is not just your mouth that will feel dehydrated. Your entire body is going to be dehydrated the next day. Dehydration is one of the main causes of headaches.

3.     Stoned over or brain fog
Using marijuana, over short-term, can slow down your perception of time. But if you have been using marijuana for a long time, studies have shown that it can have detrimental effect of your short term memory as well as your cognitive function. In addition to this is the dehydration. Dehydration can also messes with your brain function and your memory. Smoking weed dehydrates you so a combination of all these horrid side effects can give you, what is known commonly as ‘brain fog’. What makes it worse if the fact that you were up half the night having fun and getting high. Meaning you’ve lost quite a few hours of sleep. However, even with plenty of sleep after the high, your brain will still be sluggish when you wake up.

4.     Dry eyes
As mentioned before, too much weed can dry you out. And it is especially worse if you don’t keep yourself hydrated properly while you are getting high. Not only do you get dehydrated but you stay dried out long after the high wears off. Dehydration caused by weed can be very uncomfortable as it affects nearly every part of you, including your eyes. Your eyes will be red and a bit irritable when you wake up.

5.     Exhaustion
Using weed actually causes you to fall asleep much faster than you would normally. Many stoners actually do marijuana or cannabis to help ease their insomnia. However, weed induced sleep is not good for you. Studies have shown smoking weed/marijuana can cause restless, poor sleep. So smoking before bed will mess with the quality of your sleep and you will wake up feeling tired and sleepy, even if you slept for long.
