Your Halloween Stoner Movie Marathon
With summer in the rearview and Christmas still a ways off, it’s time to start thinking about legitimate reasons to start celebrating the season by getting stoned. The average stoner really doesn’t need a reason, but it’s always cool to justify blazing up by attaching it to something fun. We believe that a night spent on the couch watching trippy horror movies is as good a reason as any to get baked, and with Halloween coming up, you have a built-in reason to do just that. The question now is which movies should be added to your movie marathon. It will, of course, all come down to personal preference, but here are a few great horror flicks that would make our list.
Evil Dead 1 & 2
There are certainly plenty of crazy moments in the original Evil Dead guaranteed to please cannabis enthusiasts, most notably the cackling demon locked up in the cellar, but we believe that the second installment is weirder still. Poor Ash spends portions of this movie chasing down his disembodied hand, which he sliced off himself using a chainsaw. There is also enough humor in the second one to help take the edge off the gorier set pieces.
Shaun of the Dead
The two main characters in this British horror/comedy classic are more in tune with alcohol than drugs, but they both still fit the classic stoner mold. That they are called into action to become heroes in the midst of a zombie apocalypse tells you how messed up the world has become. This is one that will have you giggling and screaming at the same time, so a definite must for any 420-friendly horror marathon.
If you are looking for something visually appealing, as well as scary, then you should add this movie to your blazed movie marathon list. It’s classic horror at it’s very best, but it is the use of color in this one that is sure to be appealing when you are as high as a kite. There are times when it feels as though you are staring down the barrel of a kaleidoscope, which is not a bad feeling at all when you have just ingested some tasty edibles.
You can’t have a stoner Halloween horror movie list without including one that has paranoia as one of the main themes. Last Shift is a newer movie that didn’t get a lot of play, but it is super creepy. A rookie female cop is asked to babysit an old police station that is about to be mothballed in favor of a new one. The creepiness starts early, and her paranoia has her questioning every creak and moan in the old building.
Imagine coming across a long-lost ship in space, only to discover that it has basically been to Hell and back, and is now totally possessed. It is some of the images that are shown in this one that will make it appealing to potheads. It’s over the top at times, and everything that you would want in a horror flick, especially if you like things particularly weird and gory.
So kick back with some popcorn and a bong and enjoy some funny, gory fun this Halloween season!
