Meet the Doctor
Dr. Garland Cowan has been practicing anesthesiology in Las Vegas since 2000. Both his undergraduate and medical school training were completed at the University of California Los Angeles. In 1997, Dr. Cowan completed his anesthesiology residency training at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. It was after the next three years as an attending physician at UCLA Hospitals that Dr. Cowan finally made the move to Las Vegas. Since his time here, Dr. Cowan has set himself apart as a scholarly gentleman with admirable technical skills, impeccable character, and enviable charm. In 2008, Dr. Cowan and Dr. Beckett created a partnership whose sole purpose was to raise the bar as it pertained to the level of medical care in Las Vegas. Since that time, they have achieved their goals over and over again. Through the formation of Valley Anesthesiology Consultants, an anesthesiology group composed of 12 physicians, Dr. Cowan has been able to realize his dream of bringing an improved quality of healthcare to Las Vegas. Dr. Cowan also serves as Medical Director for Seven Hills Surgery Center and Coronado Surgery Center. He holds many advisory positions with several area hospitals. Outside the medical realm, Dr. Cowan enjoys music, traveling, and wine tasting.
Dr Timothy Beckett
Dr. Timothy Beckett has been practicing anesthesiology in the Las Vegas area since 2003. A native Texan, Dr. Beckett received his Bachelors Degree in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1995, and his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio in 1999. Dr. Beckett then attended the University of Michigan for his anesthesiology residency, and served as Chief Resident during his final year there. In 2008, Dr. Beckett and Dr. Cowan formed Valley Anesthesiology Consultants, a thriving anesthesiology group now comprised of 12 physicians. Concurrently, Dr. Beckett and his partner created Recovery Specialists of Nevada, a medical company that helped patients overcome their addiction to pain medication and heroin through Anesthesia Facilitated Ultra-Rapid Opioid Detoxification. Dr. Beckett currently serves as Medical Director of Stonecreek Surgery Center, as well as The Minimally Invasive Center of Excellence. He is a past Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology for Southern Hills Hospital. He is a Clinical Faculty Supervisor and Adjunct Professor for Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Beckett also currently serves on the National Physicians’ Speaker Bureau for Halyard Health where he teaches modern techniques for the placement of continuous peripheral nerve blocks for post-operative pain management following major orthopedic surgery. He also serves as an examiner for Anesthesiology Consultants, a nationally recognized company which prepares anesthesiologists for their written and oral board examinations. Recently, Dr. Beckett has accepted positions as Medical Director of a local home health agency and a hospice in order to assist their patients in obtaining medical marijuana. Dr. Beckett has written Cannabis related articles for local publications, and has been a speaker for the Las Vegas Medical Marijuana Society. Dr. Beckett is licensed to practice medicine in Nevada, California, Hawaii, and Illinois. His organizational affiliations include the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the American Medical Association, the Nevada State Society of Anesthesiologists, the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, the Nevada State Medical Association, and the Clark County Medical Society.
